What a triumphant day for USA water polo. Their cadet men’s national team won the gold medal at the Darko Cukic Memorial Tournament in Belgrade after a 9-6 victory against Croatia.
It was USA seventh straight win at this tournament which is considered as the unofficial world championship for the cadets. Before the big finale, Yankees recorded victories against Serbia, Croatia, and the Netherlands.
Americans won the trophy thanks to a great defensive display in the second half. The USA reduced Croats to just one goal in that period.
George Avakian was the best scorer with three goals, while Ethan Parrish and Tanner Pulice booth found the net two times. It’s also worth mentioning that USA goalie Nolan Krutonog had 17 saved shots.
SERBIA WINS A BRONZE MEDAL
In the first quarter, it was a tough battle in the swimming pool and nobody prevailed. The score was 2:2, but Croats had a better touch in the second quarter and they took the 5:4 lead before the end of that period.
But, when the second half started it all turned around. Croatia could not score a single goal in the third quarter and the USA did it twice to take a 6:5 lead. And Yankees continued in the same fashion, so they found the net three more times to claim the gold medal.
National water polo team of Serbia won the bronze medal after a win against Germany – 4:3 in the match for the third place.
