Three-horse race for last Final Four ticket continues

After the 15th round of the Regional League, three clubs continue race for the 4th place and for the last ticket for the Final Four. Mornar, Partizan and Jadran Split still have more or less same chances to reach the 4th place. Partizan was defeated in the 15th round, Mornar and Jadran beat their respective rivals. Mornar and Partizan have 19 points each, but the Split-based side holds the 4th place because it beat the Serbs in Belgrade. Jadran Split is 6th with 18 points. The third club from Split – POSK, that is in the 7th place, has slim chances to secure its spot at the Final Four.

Partizan lost to Jadran Herceg Novi in Belgrade. Partizan was 2:7 down in the 12th minute. The young side from Belgrade managed to come back. The hosts scored five goals in a row and leveled the score (7:7) in the middle of the third period. But, Jadran jumped to a 11:7 lead early in the last period and secured a win. Partizan couldn’t comeback once more (8:11).

As expected, Jadran Split collected all three points in Rijeka, where it faced Primorje. The visitors grew a 6-goal lead by the end of the third quarter (10:4). They kept the advantage in the remaining time and won 13:7.

Mornar played against Budva. The match was decided in the last period. Mornar, the visiting team in this game, had a minimal lead before the final eight minutes (6:5). The Split-based team, netted two goals to jump on 8:5 (4.30 before the final buzzer) which decided the outcome (8:6)

Top two teams Jug and Mladost convincingly beat their respective opponents. Jug was merciless in Split and maintained  its clean sheet. The title-holder gained a 13:4 lead three minutes before the end. POSK netted two goals in the last minute to set the final score (13:6).

The encounter between Mladost and the last-placed Primorac in Zagreb saw almost 30 goals. Mladost rushed to a 9:4 lead by halftime. The visitors were able to reduce the gap in the 3rd quarter (9:7), but Mladost didn’t let them go further. After this period the home team was 11:7 up. Mladost water polo players continued their  festival of goals in the last eight minutes and expanded the margin of their win to 8 (18:10).
