Successful national champions, Jug wins Croatian derby

Three national champions gained wins in the 13th round of the Regional league. Jug defeated Mladost in the big Croatian derby. Partizan, the champion of Serbia, beat Jadran (Split). The best Montenegrin club Jadran (Herceg Novi) was better than Primorje.

In the clash of two most successful clubs in the history of Croatian sport Jug defeated Mladost in Zagreb. Jug secured a win in the second and in the third quarter. The reigning champion of Europe had a 5-2 lead at the end of the first half. Step-by-step the players from Dubrovnik jumped to a 11-5 lead in the 26th minute. Mladost reduced their deficit in the last five minutes for a final score 9-12.

Strong defence led Jadran to a victory against Primorje in Herceg Novi. The guests from Rijeka their first goal scored in the middle of the third quarter for  8-1. Jadran had an easy task to save the victory in remaining 12 minutes. The home team won by 11-4.

Partizan managed to achieve their first win in 2017, after four losses in the previous four rounds of the Regional league. The young team from Belgrade defeated Jadran (Split), in their home pool (9-7). The guests from Croatia were better in the first half and they led 4-2 after the second quarter. The home team woke up in the third quarter and started a furious comeback. Partizan scored five goals in a row and turned around a 2-4 deficit to a 7-4 advantage. Jadran broke Partizan’s series the last second of the third period (7-5). The champions of Serbia kept the lead in the last quarter and they are still in the hunt for the Final four places.

Partizan holds the fifth place on the table now, behind Mornar (Split), which had an easy job in the 13th round. The team from Split defeated Vojvodina 10-5. After the tied first quarter (2-2) Mornar took over control for a 7-2 lead at the start of the third quarter. Vojvodina couldn’t recover after that.
