Sport Management rescues victory three seconds before the end

Three games of the 14th round of the 100th Italian Championship were decided by one goal margin, while favorites recorded convincing wins in the remaining four matches.

Roma Nuoto, which holds the 10th place traveled to Busto d’ Arizio to face 3rd-placed Sport Management. The team from the capital of Italy was very close to a big surprise. Still, Sport Management managed to earn all three points. The home team took a 3:1 lead early in the 2nd period, but Roma equalized quickly – 3:3. By the end of the quarter, the hosts scored three unanswered goals and built a 3-goal gap (6:3), which they maintained until the last break (8:5).

The visitors dominated the fourth quarter. Sport Management missed a lot of chances, including a few man-ups, while Roma scored three goals in a row from an extra and equalized again (8:8) with 1:37 remaining on the clock. But, the hosts had the last laugh. Sport Management’s Valentino converted a man-up just three seconds before the last buzzer and the favorites secured a win – 9:8.

Another club from Rome, Lazio also played a very thrilling encounter, but it posted a win. Lazio hosted Ortigia, The Romans led for most of the time, they were 7:4 up in the middle of the third quarter. But, the Sicilians were able to catch the rival. It was 7:7 in the 28th minute. Lazio soon built a 2-goal advantage (9:7). Ortigia couldn’t come back once more. Jelaca found the net in the visitors’ last attack for the final score – 9:8. After this match Ortigia remains in the 6th place, Lazio holds the 7th position, but the difference between the two teams is just a point.

There were also a lot of thrills in Trieste, in an encounter between Trieste and Iren Quinto. After a lot of twists and turns, Quinto entered the last minute with a slim 9:8 lead. Drasko Gogov equalized with 31 seconds to go. Petronio was faster than a buzzer in the last Trieste’s possession. He hit the back of the net just a second from the end, and Trieste recorded a 10:9 win. These three points pushed the team from the north of Italy to the 9th place.

Pro Recco downed last-placed Bogliasco – 16:3. The top scorer was Gonzalo Echenique (5 goals). Echenique was followed by Filip Filipovic, who found the net three times. Filipovic, Serbia captain, replaced his fellow countryman Dusan Mandic in the Pro Recco’s team for the domestic competitions. Filipovic will play for Recco in all competitions until the end of the season

Brescia did a clean job in Naples , by beating Canottieri (14:3).

Posillipo, the most successful team in the history of the sport in Naples, played against Catania on Sicily. Posillipo returned home with all three points (13:8) and kept the 4th place in the table with two points more than 5th-placed Florentia, which defeated Savona (9:3).
