Serbia and Croatia win easily at the start of the Super Final

Serbian and Croatian national water polo teams managed to secure easy, convincing wins at the start of FINA World League Super Final tournament in the Russian city of Ruza, while Italy had to fight hard for a win against the USA after penalties.

Serbian water polo team, the defending champion, beat Kazakhstan 15:7, but head coach Dejan Savic could not be satisfied with the amount of conceded goals today, with all due respect do Kazakhstan.

On the other hands, this is the part of summer when arms and legs of players are too heavy, so it is not such a big surprise. In addition to 15 scored goals, Serbia could achieve at least ten more.

In the first quarter, Pijetlovic had almost no business in front of his goal, but it changed in the next period of the game. On the other side of the swimming pool, Pijetlovic and Subotic were efficient. Centers Pijetlovic and Ubovic scored one goal in the last quarter, while Drasovic made a debut in international official competitions.

ITALIANS WIN PENALTY DRAMA

Croatia won the first match of the tournament and group B against the Asian champion of Japan with a convincing 13-5. Already at the half-time Croats had a comfortable 7-2 lead, so they could relax in the second part of the game.

That gave Japanese a chance to even win the third quarter 2:1, but in the last period of the game Croatian game was again at the level expected in. Antonio Petkovic and Anđelo Šetka were especially in the good mood to compete.

In the second game of Group A Italian water polo team beat the USA only after the penalties – 9:7. In the regular time, these rivals drew 5:5. Americans played really well in the first half, they opened the game with a 3:0 lead. But, as time passed by, Italians started to come back with two goals of Vincenzo Renzuto.

In the second half USA team kept the lead but it was reduced to just one goal and Di Fulvio gave Italians a lifeline and a chance for penalties. And there goalkeeper De Lungo saved shots from Obert and Hooper to give Azzurri a starting win.

In the last game of the first day, the hosts Russia won against Australia 11:5. With this win, Russians made a giant step towards a place in the semifinal of this tournament.
