,Six matches of the 13th round of the Champions League were played today, but they didn’t bring a new picture of a composition of the Final Eight tournament. Three spots at F8 are still available, as well as it was after the 12th round.
Pro Recco and Olympiacos continued winning streaks and secured top spots in their respective groups.
Olympiacos and Barceloneta secured their F8 tickets F8 earlier, while Brescia, Jug and Dynamo Moscow are still on a hunt for the remaining F8 berths. The Italians achieved a huge win against Barceloneta in Spain today and climbed into the 4th place (23 points). Jug is the 3rd (25), while Dynamo holds the 5th place. Brescia will have the easiest task in the 14th round, it will play against Hannover, while Dynamo and Jug will face in Dubrovnik.
Brescia water polo players recovered after a disaster in Athens in the 12th round, when Olympiacos beat them 13:9. The Italians led throughout the match against 2014 champion Barceloneta. The visiting team was 4:1 up deep into the second period. Barceloneta managed to come close in the third quarter (3:4 and 5:6). Only one goal was seen in the last period. Petar Muslim netted for 7:5 to secure Brescia three golden points.

As expected, Jug Dubrovnik collected all three points in Belgrade, against Partizan, but 2017 European champion went through some scary moments. The young side from Belgrade led 2:1, but the visiting team took control from the middle of the second period and built a 9:5 lead early in the fourth quarter. Partizan responded with three goals in a row and had a great chance to earn a point. 35 seconds by the end, Partizan’s Marko Jankovic hit the post. Immediately Jug’s left-handed player Maro Jokovic scored from a counter-attack to set the final score 8:10.
Olympiacos mathematically secured the top spot in Group A. The Greeks defeated Dynamo in Moscow. The Russians started strongly and gained a 3:0 lead. At halftime, the hosts had a one-goal advantage (5:4). The Greeks took a control in the second half. In the middle of the third, the rivals were on the same point (7:7) for the last time. Olympiacos dominated in the last ten minutes and rushed to a convincing 13:9 victory.
Group B didn’t offer a lot of thrills, as favourites easily beat their respective rivals.
Pro Recco cemented the 1st place, by a win in the encounter that supposed to be the match of the day. The eight-time European champion hosted 2nd-placed Eger. The Italians built a 5-goal lead until halftime (7:2). They were led by Filip Filipovic who scored 4 goals in the first two quarters. Eger came back in the opening minutes of the third quarter and reduced the gap (7:5). Recco answered with six goals in a row and secured a win (14:6).

The Serb netted five goals.
Jadran Herceg Novi still has a chance to reach the Final Eight. The Montenegrins had some problems in the first half of the match against AZC Alphen. After 16 minutes, it was only 6:4, but in the third and the fourth quarter, the Montenegrins ruled the field (14:7).
Jadran now awaits news from Spain. Sabadell will host Spandau 04 tomorrow. If Sabadell earns at least a point, Jadran will stay in a two-horse race for the F8 and the encounter Spandau – Jadran in the last round will decide the outcome.
