Pro Recco conquers Rome, thrilling matches in Naples and in Syracuse

Top three Italian clubs, Pro Recco, Brescia and Sport Management convincingly beat their respective rivals in the 5th round of the national championships, but today’s programme offered a few thrilling encounters.

Pro Recco water polo players continued a row of convincing victories. They demolished Lazio at the “Foro Italico” pool in Rome – 12:1. The hosts their only goal scored in the last minute of the 2nd period (1:7). Top scorers of the match were Filip Filipovic and young Jacopo Alesiani. Each scored 3 goals.

Sport Management demonstrated its power in the encounter with Acquachiara in Naples (18:4), despite it had only 11 players in the team. A fantastic 7:0 start (12th minute) put the team from Verona on the right track. Sport Management was led by Edoardo Di Somma and Stefano Luongo (4 goals each).

Brescia also sank a rival. The vice-champion shut up Florentia in the first half (4:0) and jumped to 5:0 early in the third quarter, leaving no questions open for the remaining period. At the end, Brescia defeated the guests 10:4 and maintained a perfect record, five of five.

Thrillers in Southern Italy

Ortigia and Savona shared the points in a big battle of the defences in Syracuse. Experienced goalkeepers Gianluca Patricelli (Ortigia) and Slobodan Soro (Savona) played excellently. Savona had a 5:2 lead in the third period. Afterwards, the home team managed to score three goals in a row for the final score 5:5.

Posillipo was 6:3 up in the second period of the match against Trieste at the “Felice Scandone” pool in Naples. But the hosts couldn’t keep the advantage. The visiting team was reducing its deficit step-by-step. Early in the fourth period, the Serb Nemanja Vico scored twice and Trieste went in front (9:8). In the last minute, Rossi (Posilippo) netted from an extra-man to save a point for his team and the encounter ended in a 9:9 draw.

The other team which plays at the famous “Felice Scandone” pool achieved a victory this evening. Canottieri hosted Bogliasco. The first three quarters were pretty balanced. The score at halftime was 3:3. The visiting team scored its last goal in the last minute of the third period (7:6). Three seconds before the last break Canottieri opened a series of four consecutive goals for an 11:6 win.

Canottieri caught Ortigia and Savona in points. All three teams collected 10 points each.

Catania water polo players led throughout the match against Torino 81. They led 5:1 in the fifth minute and 8:3 early in the second quarter but they finally broke the rivals in the last period. A minute before the final buzzer, Catania gained a new four-goal lead (13:9) and that decided the outcome (13:10 at the end).
