A big derby match, that was played in Verona, was the most interesting and the most thrilling game of the 16th round of the 99th Italian championship

Pro Recco defeated the second placed Sport Management in a match with a lot of twists and turns. The title-holder achieved a victory in a last-minute drama and extended its winning streak.

Home team Sport Management opened the game with a nice 2:0 lead in the fourth minute. Despite a lot of misses in 6 on 5 attacks, Pro Recco turned around the deficit to a 4:3 lead late in the 2nd period. At halftime, the visitors were 5:4 up. Sport Management managed to catch the big rival by the last break. Before the last period the teams were tied – 6:6.

The hosts went in front again early in the fourth quarter (7:6). They held scoreless Pro Recco for a long time. The visiting side scored just one goal with an extra man, despite it had nine chances during the encounter. Pro Recco started coming back in the last three minutes. Bodegas pushed Recco back to equal at 7:7 with 2:53 remaining on the clock. Aleksandar Ivovic hit the back of the net 22 seconds from time and decided everything. Pro Recco , which won the Italian Cup on Sunday, earned an 8:7 victory and cemented its first place in the table.

Recco is now six points ahead of Sport Management and Brescia, that beat Canottieri with ease (12:4) in the 16th round

Savona , which keeps the 4th place, demolished Acquachiara (21:4). Florentia water polo players beat Posillipo in Florence (10:8).

Visiting teams were more successful in Bogliasco, Trieste and Torino.

An encounter between Bogliasco and Catania offered a drama in the last minute, just like the match in Verona. The visiting team of Catania earned all three points thanks to a goal scored 30 seconds before the end for an 8:7 win. Ortigia defeated Trieste (8:5). Lazio didn’t come home empty-handed after the match in Torino. The Rome-based side celebrated an 11:9 victory over Torino 81.
