Italy, Serbia, and Greece dominated the group stage at European juniors

Serbian, Italian and Greek junior national water polo teams all qualified for the quarterfinal of the European championships in Malta with the perfect records in the group stage of this prestigious competition. Also, Croatian water polo team did the same, but Barracudas had two wins and one draw in their group.

Croatia won a tough Group A thanks to a better goal difference than Hungarian national team. Croats beat Montenegro 13:9 in the match of the first round, then drew with Hungary 10:10 and then destroyed Ukraine – 19:4. And it was that victory which opened the door of the place in the quarterfinals for Croatia.

Hungary won 12:11 against Montenegro and 11:1 against Ukraine. Montenegrians clinched a spot in the Round 16 thanks to a win against Ukraine – 9:4.

Italians won the first place in Group B with a maximum of nine points. They started with a solid 15:6 victory against Germany, continued with a 13:10 win in a derby against Spain and finished with 12:6 thrashing of Romania.

Spanish water polo team had to be satisfied with a second place which they reached thanks to wins against Romania (21:7) and Germany (13:8). In the decisive match for the third spot and a place in Round 16 water polo team of Romania beat Germans – 8:4.

Like Italy, Serbian national water polo team did not have problems in Group C. Serbs also won nine points and scored victories against Georgia (13:2), hosts Malta (18:1) and France (19:3). Les Bleus were second as they also beat Malta (14:8) and Georgia (10:9), and Georgians took the last playoff spot with a win against host nation – 15:9.

Greece water polo team also had a great campaign in the group stage.

At the start of the competition in Group D, Greeks had a tough challenge against Slovakia, but they found a strength to win 11:10. In the Round 2 and 3, they beat Russia and Turkey respectively, both games with the same result 9:7.

Russians won the second place after wins against Turkey (8:7) and Slovakia (10:7). The Turks managed to qualify for Round 16 after a victory against Slovakia – 10:6.
