Flood of goals in Trieste, favorites with no mistake (VIDEO)

Italian clubs which play in the 2018/19 Champions League had no problems in the 13th round of the national championship. Title-holder Pro Recco, Brescia and Sport Management did their jobs. The three teams are still far away of the closest rival, 4th-placed Posillipo. There were no big surprises, but a few games offered thrilling finishes.

Pro Recco beat Iren Quinto. After opening 1:1, Pro Recco produced a 10:0 rush to jump to an 11:1 lead in the 23rd minute. The reigning champion, led by Mateo Aicardi (5 goals) recorded a 14:5 victory.

Sport Management hosted Florentia. The teams were tied in the 10th minute (3:3). The home team took control from the middle of the quarter and it jumped to a 10:4 lead early in the 3rd quarter and everything was decided.

Brescia water polo players did a clean job in Rome. They blew away Lazio – 17:7.

Two games were played in Rome in the 13th round. The visitors posted a win in the second game too. Posillipo took all three points in the match against Roma Nuoto. The Naples-based side built a 5:1 lead by halftime. After the scoreless 3rd period, three goals were seen in the last quarter. Posillipo recorded a 6:3 victory.

The encounter between Trieste and Ortigia was an action-packed drama with 27 goals. Ortigia, the visiting team, took a quickly 4:0 lead and it had a 6:2 advantage early in the second period. The home side started climbing back and it equalized (8:8) 100 seconds from the end of the 3rd quarter. The rivals were tied before the last eight minutes (10:10), while Trieste went ahead in the 27th minute when Panerai converted a man-up for 12:11. Trieste had a 13:12 lead in the middle of the fourth quarter. Alberto Espanol decided everything with two goals in the last two and a half minutes for Ortigia’s 14:13 win. Espanol and Panerai were the top scorers with 4 goals each.

There were a lot of thrills in Naples too. Canottieri hosted Savona. The teams were in a neck-and-neck race from the beginning. At half time it stood 3:3. After the third period, Canottieri had a slim 5:4 advantage. The hosts entered the last minute with a 7:6 advantage, but Savona’s Kristian Milakovic was faster than a buzzer. He scored an equalizer just a second before the end for – 7:7.

Catania defeated last-placed Bogliasco with an easy (15:9) and saved a chance to avoid the play-out. Catania is still in the 13th place, with a point less than 12-placed Savona.
