The draw for the final phase of qualifications for the 2018 LEN European Water Polo Championships was on November 4 held in Budapest. Sixteen men’s and twelve women’s water polo teams will battle to reserve their spot in Barcelona.
The qualifications saw the registration of 45 European water polo squads. Until now, men’s teams of Austria and Bulgaria, as well as the women’s team of Malta got knocked out.
Due to their accomplishment in 2016 when Belgrade hosted the European Championships, eight men’s squads and six women’s squads so far qualified for Barcelona 2018. The same number of teams will proceed after the playoff.
The playoff winners will be known after two legs which are scheduled for February 24 and March 3, 2018.
National water polo teams which finished as top 8 in Belgrade are Serbia, Montenegro, Hungary, Greece, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Russia. These are the first eight participants of the 2018 Championship.
Eight squads which played the 2nd qualifying round and eight teams which took places 9-16 in Belgrade will battle for 8 tickets to Barcelona. According to the draw, qualifying clashes are the following:

Women’s national teams of Hungary, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Greece, and Russia finished as top 6 squads in Belgrade, booking their tickets for the 33rd European Water Polo Championship. Six playoff winners will join them after two-legged clashes:

Afterwards, the draw for the 2018 European Championship group stage is expected to be organized in March 2018.
The 2018 LEN European Water Polo Championships will take place on July 24-28, 2018 at the Bernat Picornell Pools, Barcelona.
