Here we go again. This is the beginning of the new season i FINA World League, and three matches of Round one of European preliminaries are going to be played on Tuesday.

Serbian national team is defending the title once again and in the opening round Dejan Savic’s team is going to play at home against Romania. Croatia will host Russia, while Spain is playing at home against the Netherlands.

The coach of Serbian NT called all the players which have won a bronze medal at the World championship in Budapest last summer except Stefan Mitrovic because he is injured. Instead of him, Savic called Strahinja Rasovic.
“We want to play with the best squad available at the moment because we still don’t know where the Super Final tournament is going to be held so there is a possibility that the best second placed team also qualifies for it. We know the Romanian team very well. The most important thing for us is to gather up again for the first time since August and to train and play well”, said Savic at the beginning of the preparations for the start of World League.

In the match of B group, world champion Croatia will play in Zadar against Russia and this could be called the derby of Round one.

Croatian NT coach Ivica Tucak said he expects a tough game because Russian water polo is once more facing a big expansion.
“One of our main goals in the World League is to test as much players as we can and also to rest those who led the team in previous years. The most important competition in this year is the European championship. So that’s why we need to test a lot of players. I hope that we will compete for the gold medal at Euro”, said Tucak.

In the Group C we will see a duel between Spain and the Netherlands. This is going to be played in Malaga. Last season Spanish water polo team didn’t play in the World League, while Netherlands was eliminated in the preliminary phase.

This the 16th edition of the World League tournament. It will be played between until June 2018. After participating in a preliminary round, eight teams qualify to play in Super Final from 18–23 June 2018.
