The eight round of the Italian championship has been played in a span of five days, because clubs which compete in the Champions League and the Euro Cup, played their games earlier last week.

Teams from the top of the table made no mistakes. Pro Recco and Sport Management convincingly beat their respective rivals, while Brescia brought home three points from Savona. Florentia knocked down Acquachiara.

The most thrilling match was played in Torino, where Posillipo earned very important three points in a runaway from the bottom of the table. The fourth period was decisive for the outcome. Before the last eight minutes, the teams were at the same starting point – 6:6. Marziali netted for a new advantage of the visiting team in the 27th minute. Gandini managed to equalise in the middle of this period, but in the next attack, Marziali scored its third goal in the match for a 7:6 win.

Pro Recco demolished Ortigia. After the balanced first period, the title-holders led 1:0. In the 3rd minute of the second quarter, the score was 2:1. Then started a storm. Recco water polo players scored 12 goals in a row for a 14:1 lead. They held Ortigia scoreless for 18 and a half minutes. The team from Sicily netted its second goal (14:2) in the middle of the last period. After that, Recco added two goals and won 16:2.

Sport Management didn’t have any mercy against fourth-placed Canottieri. Sport Management, that qualified for the semifinals of the Euro Cup last weekend, beat the guests from Naples 14:6. The hosts were going to the convincing victory step-by-step. At halftime, they were 6:3 up. Canottieri reduced its deficit early in the third period (7:5). They weren’t able to go any further. Sport Management, led by Antonio Petkovic and Stefano Luongo (who scored three goals both) tightened its defence and with five unanswered goals jumped to a 12:5 in the middle of the last period and ruined all visitors’ hopes.

Brescia continued winning streak, beating Savona. The runner-up in the last season controlled the match, while Savona was able to follow the rival only in the first half. In the middle of the second quarter, Brescia had a minimal advantage (4:3). Cristian Presciutti (4 goals in the encounter) hit the back of the net late in the second period for 5:3. The visiting team added two goals in the third period and built a nice 7:3 lead. Goalkeepers were dominant in the last eight minutes. Only one goal was seen and Brescia won 7:4.

Florentia recorded the third consecutive win, defeating Acquachiara, that is still with no points. The players of Florentia led 4:0 and 6:1 in the first half, but at the big break, they had a three-goal advantage (6:3). Acquachiara its last goal scored in the 20th minute (9:5). In the remaining time, Florence-based club rushed to a 19:5 win.
