The women’s Euro League first round draw was performed on the occasion of the European Men’s Junior Championships in Alphen, the Netherlands on Sunday. A packed tournament this season saw four groups being created to be played in Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal and Italy. After years of less interest due to financial struggles, the European women’s club tournament is on the revival tour. Four competitive groups will play for Euro League prelims participation in what can be considered a ‘wider’ tournament this edition. Hungary, Italy, Greece and the Netherlands all have three teams in this season.
Last year’s Euro League Final Four contenders will join these sides in the prelims as the top 3 teams of each group will advance. It will probably mean particularly fierce match-ups in group B, in Utrecht, and group C, in Porto, the groups which consist of 5 teams.
