Montenegro could not get the home crowd in ultimate cheers on Saturday in Podgorica as Croatia proved too strong in the gold medal final 16-13 to succeed Hungary as U18 World Youth champion. The Croatians made the difference in the final quarter after the home team had levelled the score from being down 9-7 in the third session. They showed resillience in the final term again as Croatia struck first by taking a 14-11 lead but Montenegro, cheered on by a jam packed crowd, scored twice through talented left-hander Aleksa Ukropina to get back in the game with the final 4 minutes ahead. The response by Croatia however was decisive. Zvonimir Butic and Lovro Paparic scored consecutive goals and decided the outcome in their favour. Montenegro tried their best but could not hit on 4 shot attempts in the remainder as Croatia held on and celebrated the gold.
Hungary claimed the bronze medal beating Italy 12-8, while Serbia topped Greece in another scoring festival, 19-22, to finish in 5th place. Russia completed a huge comeback in the second half against Australia, who were held scoreless, to take 7th place.
