Croatia and host nation Montenegro will play for the 2016 World Youth championship on Saturday in Podgorica. Both held off tough opponents in strong semi-finals on Friday. Croatia proved the better of Hungary in a high-scoring contest, 17-21, which included 3 10-or-more goals-scored quarters. Montenegro played a thrilling match in front of a packed crowd at Podgorica. In the second half of the final period two consecutive goals by the home team decided the outcome. Aleksa Ukropina and Savo Cetkovic turned around a 9-9 score into a 11-9 lead with just 1.33 on the clock. Italy launched a final attack which saw Antonio Maccioni scoring on extra man with 0.44 remaining as the game was up for a tense finish. Here, Montenegro committed a turnover so Italy would get a final chance where even a 6-on-5 was forced. Here however an ultimate attempt by Gaetano Baviera was saved so that the home crowd had something to cheer for, as Montenegro held on for the close win and will meet Croatia in the gold medal final.
