Close wins for Debrecen, Vasas

Round three of the Hungarian championships featured little surprise as the favourites added solid wins to their young season totals while Debrecen and Vasas came out as victors of respective close contests. Vasas held off Pécs 14-13 in a high-scoring game at home in Budapest with Jesse Koopman netting a critical goal for the home side with 3 minutes remaining (14-12) allowing Marcell Kolozsi to strike for his 5th of the game for the visitors with over a minute to go, which turned out to be too late. Debrecen controlled Szentes in the first half establishing a 3-7 lead at half-time, enough for a 7-9 victory in Szentes on Saturday in another group A meeting. Leaders Szolnok came to a solid, yet clear 6-11 victory in Szeged with Denes Varga (3 goals) and Andrija Prlainovic (2) leading the way.

In group B favourites Eger, FTC, Miskolc and Honvéd each posted wins. Miskolc walked away from Kaposvár in the 2nd half for a 12-8 victory. Eger controlled BVSC to come out victorious 7-11 while Honvéd raced past UVSE 17-6 with Gergely Kiss and Marton Szivos combining for 8 goals in the win. FTC dominated Tatabanya 18-4, led by Stefan Mitrovic’ 6 hits.
