Brescia makes no mistake and still leads the race

The match of the Day 8 of the 100th Italian Championship didn’t offer a lot of thrills, as Brescia convincingly defeated Posillipo. The other two Italian representatives in the Champions League Pro Recco and  Sport Management also beat their respective rivals with an ease.

Brescia stunned Posillipo in the opening minutes of the derby and earned a 3:0 lead in the middle of the 1st  quarter. Brescia, the host in this match, played excellently in defense and it was 5:1 up at halftime. After the big break, Posillipo consolidated its attack, but the Naples-based side couldn’t come back. The leader beat the visitors 10:5.

Pro Recco traveled to Naples to face Canottieri. The title-holder, led by its captain Aleksandar Ivovic and Francesco Di Fulvio (each scored 5 goals) dominated from the beginning and cruised to a 17:6 win.

Sport Management hosted newcomer Iren Quinto. The visitors managed to keep up with Sport Management for almost two quarters. Quinto trailed 5:7 in the 16th minute. The hosts netted two goals in the last 30 seconds of the 2nd period and dominated in the second half of the game for an 18:6 win.  Fondelli was the top scorer in the match (5 goals).

Roma climbed from the 9th into the 6th place in the table. The team from the capital of Italy downed Savona water polo players in their pool. Early in the second quarter, the sides were tied (2:2), but Roma went 6:3 up before the last break. The visitors kept an advantage for a 9:5 victory.

Savona fell into the 8th place, behind Ortigia, which defeated the-last placed Bogliasco in Syracuse (12:7). The man of the match was an experienced Serb Boris Vapenski, who found the net 5 times.

The most thrilling game of the round was an encounter between Lazio and Trieste. Lazio, the home team, had a solid 6:3 lead at halftime. Trieste was able to equalize and the teams were tied before the last eight minutes (7:7). The visitors added two goals early in the fourth quarter to go 9:7 up. They had a minimal lead in the middle of the period (10:9). In the remaining time, Lazio turned around the deficit to an  11:10 triumph.

Florentia water polo players dominated the match against Catania and recorded an 11:5 win.
