Big surprise in Dubrovnik

Waspo Hannover achieved a big surprise in the 5th round of the Champions league The Germans won a point against  title-holder Jug, in Dubrovnik (15-15). The home team should be more satisfied than Germans, because after the third quarter Hannover led 10-6.

In the derby matches of Day 5 Barceloneta won a game against Eger and Olympiacos was better than OSC. In other games the favourites didn’t make any mistake.

Group A

The match Olympiacos – OSC was a hard fought battle during the first half (3-2). In the third quarter Greeks tightened their defense. They scored three goals in a row including two in the last 90 seconds and jumped to a 7-3 lead. OSC soften their defeat by one goal in the last quarter, for the final score 7-4.

Szolnok (HUN) started slowly in the match against Spandau (2-1 in the 6th minute). But, in the second period Hungarians scored three straight goals to go 6-2 up. Hungarian champion led 9-4 but the hosts let Spandau to climb back (10-7). However, in the last quarter Szolnok showed who the favourite is (12-7).

In the match Brescia – Nice, the French newcomers in the Champions league played very well. At the halftime rivals were equaled (5-5). After 8-8, four minutes before the end of the 3rd period, Brescia’s players netted two in a span of 32 seconds and they headed to a victory 12-9.

Group B

Waspo Hannover was very close to a miracle in Dubrovnik. Jug didn’t start strong, but the Croats led 6-4 at the middle of the 2nd quarter. Then the Germans produced an unbelievable rush, and made series 6-0. The third period ended at 6-10. In the last quarter the title-holders started climbing back. In a thrilling finish Jug equaled the score at 14-14 (1.52 remaining on the clock). Darko Brguljan scored from an extra man for 14-15 but Felipe Perrone netted to equalize with (0:41 before the final whistle) . The game finished at 15-15 after a 9-5 last period. Hannover was led by the Montenegrins Radovic (5 goals) and Brguljan (4 goals). Perrone was the best scorer in Jug, with five goals.

The final score in Dubrovnik is a good news for Barceloneta, who caught up Jug in points and took over main rival Eger, too in the hunt for the F6 places after a win against the Hungarians 10-6. After 5-5, few minutes after the start of the 3rd quarter Barceloneta’s defence was superb: they let only a single goal in the last 13 minutes.

Pro Recco showed its great power against Partizan, by winning 17-5. Young players of Partizan didn’t play so bad during almost three quarters. Three minutes before the end of the 3rd quarter score was 4-8. In the last 11 minutes Recco ‘s players scored 9 times, home team only once, and the Italians, coached by Vladimir Vujasinovic, extended their winning streak.
