No major surprises in round 1 of the water polo Champions League, played this weekend. Some battles for the respective top spots in the groups were the real highlights with OSC edging Waspo 98 Hannover in a clash of the titans in group B, 12-11, while Jadran Herceg Novi proved to have the better of Steaua Bucharest to clinch the overall victory in group D, played in Malta. They are looking to reach the prelims once more after having gone the same route last year.
Another highlight was on display in Porto where BPM Sport Management came back from trailing 5-9 in the final period to draw level with Sintez Kazan 10-10 in the end, enough for the first place it turned out.
In group A CSM Digi Oradea remained undefeated while Mornar clinched second place and also remained in the race for the preliminary stage.
The eight qualifying sides will meet the eight wild-card holder countries’ second seeded teams in the next round. They will be drawn into four groups of four on Monday from noon in the LEN Office in Nyon.
