Barceloneta wins the big derby to remain perfect!

Spanish top water polo clubs played the last round of matches this year and the league will be continued on 12th of January. And, to put the cherry on the top of the water polo cake, the fans had an opportunity to watch a big derby between Barceloneta and Terrassa, and the defending champion claimed a 13:7 win.

This was a key match in a fight to win the first place and Barceloneta controlled the game. The Sailors had a four-goal lead already at the halftime. The Chus Martin’s team finished the year with perfect 33 points from 11 games.

Roger Tahull scored the first goal of the match, but Alex de la Fuente quickly managed to equalize. Before the end of the first quarter, Slovakian Martin Famera gave a new advantage to Barceloneta.

The home team started the second quarter very strongly. The Sailors scored three goals in a row, and it was 5:1.

After the big break, Cobacho’s team could not close the gap. Barceloneta water polo team scored another three goals in a row to get to a seven goals gap (10-3).

Terrassa players tried to get to an honorable defeat in the last quarter, they managed to get a partial draw (3:3) in those eight minutes. Roger Tahull was the man of the match with five goals.

Mediterrani water polo beat visiting Quadis Mataro – 10:8. This was a decisive duel for the fourth position in the standings in this year. In the first three-quarters, Mediterrani controlled the game and entered the last period with an 8:5 lead.

Real Canoe and Sant Andreu played a great match which ended up in a 9:9 draw. This point means that Real Canoe stayed in the eight position which means they qualify for the Copa del Rey final tournament.

Barcelona water polo club recorded the biggest win of the round – they beat visiting Tenerife 18:1. The home team was dominant from start until the finish of the game and they had a 7:0 lead at the halftime. Joel Esteller was the top scorer with four goals.
