FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships Draw

The Draws of the Men’s 19th and Women’s 12th FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships were held on February 24 in Budapest (HUN). Twenty men’s and sixteen women’s teams will participate in 2017 competition. Reigning champions are Serbia (Men) and USA (Women).

Men’s U20 World Championships (Belgrade, Serbia)
August 5-13, 2017

19th FINA Men's Junior Wolrd Championships

 

There will be four groups of five teams, which form groups A, B, C and D. The four highest ranked teams in each group will qualify for the Quarter Final Round. The 2nd and 3rd ranked teams will meet in the second round, while the 4th and 5th in each group will be eliminated from the race for medals, but will play for positions 13-20.

Host Serbia, the defending champions, will play in group C against New Zealand, Australia, China, and the team (Americas 3rd) which still has to be confirmed.
Silver and bronze medalists at the previous World championships held in Almaty – Italy and Hungary – are in group D, and will cross swords Egypt, Canada and South Africa.
Rivals of Greece, who ended 4th last year, will be Russia, Iran and USA, while the fifth rival (Americas 4th) is yet to be confirmed.
Croatia and Spain – silver medalists at World Championships in 2013 and 2011 – will face Netherlands and Japan in group B. The fifth group B member (Americas 5th) still has to be confirmed.

September 3-9, 2017

12th FINA Women's Junior World Championships

There will be four groups of four teams, which form groups A, B, C and D. The four highest ranked teams in each group will qualify for the Quarter Final Round. The 2nd and 3rd ranked teams will meet in the second round, while each group’s last team will play in the ‘losers group’ for the 13th place.

USA won two consecutive Women’s Junior World Water Polo Championships, in 2013 and 2015. Their rivals at the 2017 Championships will be Spain, bronze medalists at 2015 and 2013 World Championships, and the 2011 champions, New Zealand, and and the team (Americas 4th) which still has to be confirmed.
Canada, Italy and Germany will play in group C, the fourth member of this group (Americas 3rd) still has to be confirmed.
Last year’s bronze medalists Russia will face Japan, Hungary and Netherlands in group A.
Greece, bronze medalists at the 2013 World championships, will play in group B against South Africa, China and Australia, who won bronze medals in 2011.
